Center for Modern Greece (CeMoG)

The Center for Modern Greece (Centrum Modernes Griechenland/CeMoG) of the Freie Universität Berlin (FU Berlin) supports the interdisciplinary cooperations between Germany and Greece in the fields of research and teaching. Its activities, which focus on bridge building within the context of the European integration process, include the intensification of the Greek-German scientific and cultural transfers through the creation of networks of scientists and artists. The formation of interdisciplinary working groups which carry out international research projects, the development and deepening of Modern Greek Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin as well as the promotion and publication of Greek literature and Greek culture related books in German are its main focal points. The CeMoG is established at the Department of Philosophy and Humanities of the Freie Universität Berlin and could not operate without the generous support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

Knowledge Base

A crucial matter for the CeMoG is the historical approach to the study of Greek-German entanglements from the 18th century to the present day. Our main activities include pursuing scientific discussion, stimulating case study research and mapping the history of German-Greek cultural and scientific exchange.
